This image is of one of the Akrotiri famous Saffron Gatherers, a fresco that was preserved by volcanic ash. Akrotiri was a Minoan settlement on the island of Thera in the Aegean Sea, when between 1650 and 1450 BCE, the island was buried after a volcanic explosion.
