ISOLATION! 13 Norwich Medieval Churches
“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” Thomas Merton.
This gallery is dedicated to some of Norwich's most oldest and beautiful built churches. Once Norwich had 57 medieval churches and those that remain are either not used as they once were or used at all. Fascinated with their historical past, and the fact that Norwich had the most medieval churches in the UK, Morgan has recreated 13 of the most known and unknown, separating them from structures that surround them today to depict their general isolation. Using light, symbols and an emergence of colours, the mood of which alters dramatically when viewed at different times of day and in different light, the churches have been brought together to be experienced in a visual and physical exploration. We see full moons (symbolic of completeness, renewal and continuation) and friendly dragons (symbolic of association, protection and wisdom).
And here you can participate in the ISOLATION! Guided Walk. Click on the link below to get your free guide with map, and then go for an enjoyable walk that will introduce to you all the 13 medieval churches. The Guided Walk asks you to look for a unique clue on view at each church and the answers to the clues can be found on a link below. Starting at St Edmunds Church, Fishergate, Norwich, NR3 1GU, the walk is 3.4 miles and will take approximately 1 hour, though we recommend allowing yourself longer for rest breaks and time to look around.
