I have painted several versions of this Knossos painting, which consists of an acrobat leaping over a bull. The activity was associated with bull worship and and consisted of a leaper grasping the bull's horns. In response the bull would respond violently, jerking its neck upwards which gave the leaper the momentum to somersault and perform other dangerous stunts.
